Marc LaSof Marc LaSof
marcl@island-fitness.com
Marc comes to Island Fitness after many years in marine rescue, and his focus changed from those in need on the water to those in need of improving their well being and future well being. Marc knows firsthand that if you take care of your body, it will take care of you. He has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and was Washington State Champion in his age group in 2001 and 2003, taking silver in 2002. He was also highly competitive in open water kayak racing, garnering numerous wins and top-three finishes, oftentimes against those twenty years his junior. (Training six days a week, often in harsh conditions, gives one a whole new appreciation and respect for what the body can do!)

Marc was a kayak and water safety instructor in addition to being a guide for Olympic Outdoor Center for several years. It was there that Marc discovered his love of teaching, and that there is nothing more rewarding than watching the progression of an energized student -- whether that student is a young, competitive athlete or a senior looking to improve quality of life and basic mobility.

Marc is certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine and believes in training from the inside out, stressing technique, and emphasizing quality over quantity. Although his training is heavily influenced by modern advancements and studies, he firmly believes everyone can use a dose of "old school" now and then.

Ann New Ann New
annn@island-fitness.com
Ann approaches exercise and training with the fundamental awareness that linking an individual’s health and fitness goals with passion and enjoyment is what creates and sustains success!

At the age of 7, Ann had her first encounter with what would become her lifelong passion for dance, and she has been inspired by movement ever since. As a young person she intensively studied many forms of dance, swam competitively, taught swimming lessons to children and worked summers as a lifeguard.

As a young adult, Ann translated her passion for movement to group exercise and for 25 years has taught Step, Hi-Lo, Circuit Training and most currently Group Power. She has taught group exercise on the island for 17 years and at Island Fitness since the club opened in August of 2002. She worked as Island Fitness’ Group Fitness Coordinator for 4 years.

Ann has been teaching people to move with music since she was 16 and intends to continue doing so until her last breath. She hopes that’s okay with Michael and Alexa. Adding Personal Training to the mix is a wonderful and natural extension of Ann’s lifetime experience in teaching and coaching.

Prior to moving to Seattle, Ann worked as Marketing Director for Indianapolis Ballet Theatre and subsequently owned and operated her own dance school in Bloomington, Indiana. Upon moving to Bainbridge Island in 1990 she had the privilege of directing the Preparatory Dance Program at Seattle’s Cornish College of the Arts for 12 years, coordinating community programs at IslandWood and serving as Interim Executive Director at Bainbridge Youth Services. In November 2007, Ann joined the Center for Courage & Renewal as Development Associate.

elizabethc@island-fitness.com
Not a natural-born athlete, Elizabeth was always the proverbial "last kid picked" for every team. She bumbled through life with an aversion to anything physical until she was well into middle age, when she suddenly discovered an unlikely passion for weightlifting and threw herself into the sport with a ferocity not typical of the average grandmother. She is now a firm believer that it's never too late for even the most deconditioned non-athlete to develop a genuine affinity for fitness and overcome the obstacles of aging to achieve a strong, healthy, athletic body.

Elizabeth recently moved to Bainbridge Island from the heart of Louisiana's Cajun country where she worked for four years as a strength training coach and competed in local power lifting events. Prior to that she has been employed as a food chemist, an editor, a rosarian, and a professional humor writer. She holds a B.A. in neurophysiology from Wesleyan University and a certification in the Biomechanics of Resistance Training from the Cooper Institute in Dallas. She is certified in CPR and First Aid.

If she's not at Island Fitness pumping iron, Elizabeth is probably out zydeco dancing, swashbuckling with roses, or hiking around the island with her albino Doberman Superman, a Hurricane Katrina rescue. She will be happy to show you her biceps and/or pictures of her newest grandchild.
